Touching base

Looks like we got ourselves a little project a-brewing!

I sold the old dining room tulip chairs in order to fund the purchase of six brand spanking new Eiffel bases. I picked them up today and couldn't be happier.

I found a well priced source via ebay that was AMAZINGLY located just about an hour away from The Brick House. Instead of paying for shipping I just drove over and picked up a set of six black Eiffel bases. They sellers seem like a nice small business that manufactures all sorts of different styles of Eames bases including a selection of wide mounts, rockers, cats cradle and other bent wire based furniture products.

The WEIRDEST thing was that this Ebay seller was located right across the street from my family's recently defunct boat business. *SPOOKY*

At least I got to stop by and say hello to my mom.

This set is going to be so f*ing awesome.

A little wet sanding, shock mount repositioning and Penetrol rub down and we should be in business.

*BTW*

Posting will probably be very lite round the old Brick House bloggity. Buying chair bases is how I just spent my one day off of work this week...and I've had 3 days off (total) since June.

Ugh.

I'm getting crazy withdrawal from not visiting any thrift stores in over a month. When is September coming again? Oh man, this is going to be a lllllloooooonnnnggggg summer.

Yes?

A
pair of pendants for the pink bathroom? Installed on either side of the sink? Paired with this? On the ceiling?

Yes?

Lighting is hard.

Laurel Lamp

Everyone, I'd like you to meet Laurel. Laurel this is everyone.

I know it may shock you, but please don't mention that she's topless. It's a cultural difference from the exotic land of Ebay.

(Stop staring at her exposed bits)

The Fourth

I've always been a big fan of the fourth of July - its just a kitschy good time. I love a good BBQ and fireworks show, or a nice dip in the pool on a lazy holiday.

Well nope, none of that for me this year (or last year or any foreseeable summer in the near future). I totally have to work. Maybe if I accessorize a little more patriotically my overlords might let me celebrate...

Vintage patriotic accessories are no good without the fourth - or a national election. I imagine it would be difficult to work these into an everyday outfit.

Have a rad fourth!

Kitchen Kilim

I'm totally a sucker for ebay kilims.

I nervously auctioned my way to winning another rug on ebay with the intent of sticking it in the kitchen. It fits at 10' x 4' and is definitely lovely for $22.50.

When I saw it on ebay I thought the pale aqua color and the subtle geometric pattern would pick up the color in my nutty turquoise counter tops. Surprisingly the dark brown geometric pattern creates a great frame against the dark floors...I was a little worried about mixing the dark brown and black. Overall it gives a nice layer of texture to the kitchen which has recently started to feel a little too atomic kitsch and not as modernist snazzy as I'd like.

This rug seems to be of better quality than the one in the bedroom. Its a bit thicker and way less rough...although I'm really not sure how these things should feel.

I might have kilim mania. I still really want a few more to throw around the house.

I wonder how many is too many?

Thrifty!

I found a couple of paintings at the local Hospice Thrift recently (like I need anymore f*ing paintings). They were painted by the same artist "Lilie" who appeared to be quite prolific.

There had to be about 15 paintings all by the jaunty Lilie in a number of different styles and subject matters. I spotted sailboats, still-lives, architectural renderings, and wacky abstractions. I picked my two favorites - the abstract patterned mid century ceramic still-life and the oddly proportioned bushy goatee man portrait.

Old Lilie must have died and the paintings shuffled over to the Hospice thrift store. Its always exciting for me to see a group of paintings done over the years by a single amateur painter. I guess its also a little sad that her retrospective is at the thrift store.

Bookcases

I've been fiddling around with the bookcases in the living room trying to make them look curated, interesting and uncluttered. I haven't totally succeeded, but at least my little black horses found a place.

Sometimes I dream of simple things made of plywood.

(all over)

(all the way)

(all Judd)

(all paint)

(all Aalto)

I'm wanting to find inspiration to take my lil' bookcases to the next level. They're bothering me but I can't put my finger on WHY.
I've had no satisfaction with any one interior arrangement since the bookcases were built. Maybe it might be the physical structure that is the true issue.

I want it
cleaner, neater...better.

Paint inside? Plywood doors? Something...something...something...

Obviously this bookcase thing is an EXTREME pressing issue at the Brick House. No no no, its not the lack of a driveway, or absence of landscaping, or missing exterior door hardware, or a half painted house, or the unfinished bathroom, or giant holes in the walls that need to be patched. No, obviously we should work on the already finished bookcase. No wonder the Boy thinks I'm nuts.

The stupid bookcase thing has really gotten me crazy obsessing and I kind of feel like it could be a very simple solution...unlike rewiring the bathroom.

Hmmmmmm.
